January 2024 Update

by leecastlecanterbury on 31 January, 2024

January has been a busy start to the year. I attended a Canterbury City Full Council Meeting and had briefings on Policing, planning information around heritage sites and also information on the contaminated bins and how these will be processed. I know this has caused some concern for residents who are used to a certain way of doing things but be assured the rules haven’t changed, just the implementation to save money on contaminated waste costs. Bins are also still for sale at reduced rate of £10. Any issues please get in touch.

I attended Littlebourne Parish Council and it’s great to hear things are moving forward with their 20mph zones within the village. Also, a reminder that the Youth Group meet every Wednesday (please check their Facebook page for updates)

I attended Wickhambreaux Parish Council, and it was great to hear about their D Day Plans and also the installation of the Village Green sign.

At Bekesbourne and Patrixbourne, the Nailbourne was discussed. The Environment Agency expected the river to recede, although this has happened it is still high and tankering is taking place within the Ward, hopefully the situation continues to improve.

At an A257 meeting, various parishes and Councillors met to discuss the road, connections linked to it and improvements to signage for closures, all of which will be followed up with subcontractors.

You may have heard about a cyber incident at the City Council, this has not compromised any data. The Council Security Team shut down most systems as a precaution. Systems have now been returning to normal, however, I know that missed bin reports have been changed to phone calls, please keep reporting them and if anyone has any continuing issues please get in touch. I know Stodmarsh and Bramling have been having collection issues for food waste and I have chased these with Canenco. It’s also great to hear Ickham are planning on installing village defibrillators.

The new draft local plan is moving forward at pace, keep an eye out on all platforms for when the new 12-week consultation goes live. Once I have the updated information to share about the key information, I will do so with all residents.

In Littlebourne the Parish Council has been chasing the Gladman site via the Planning department. Currently behind the scenes Gladman are trying to overcome the issues to meet planning policy and the application is still being processed. When any update is available, I will share the information on all platforms.

In February I will attending Littlebourne, Ickham and Adisham Parish council meetings and also a Full City Council budget meeting. I have also been drafted onto Womenswold Parish Council, alongside Mike Sole, until local residents can be co-opted onto the council.

Lastly, I have been dealing with the usual case work, around housing, parking and received various emails and calls on a wide range of issues. Please get in touch via email, phone or Facebook with anything I can assist with.
